Iran to Launch 3 Logistics Villages

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran is going to establish three logistics villages in the cities of Yazd, Sirjan, and Tabriz with the purpose of developing rail transportation.

Economy

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the establishment of the three logistics villages was signed on Monday during a ceremony attended by the CEO of the Islamic Republic of Iran Railways (RAI).

The plan is aimed at realizing policies for the development of rail transportation, increasing the share of rail in freight transport, creating a competitive advantage for the country’s logistics network, facilitating non-governmental sector investment, reducing fuel consumption and air pollution, lowering road accidents, and enhancing Iran’s transit position.

Key axes of the agreements include the development of logistics villages and dry ports, construction and expansion of railway lines and related infrastructure, issuance of necessary licenses for the operation and management of logistics projects, and the transportation of freight via rail.
