Araqchi Criticizes UN for Ignoring Civilian Casualties in War on Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The foreign minister of Iran called on the UN secretary general to take account of hundreds of innocent Iranian civilians slaughtered in the brutal US and Israeli military campaign, reminding the UN of its legal responsibility regarding the unprovoked and illegal war on Iran.

In a post on his X account on Saturday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi responded to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres who has voiced concern about “the grave a risk to the global economy” caused by the US and Israeli military aggression against Iran and has called for efforts “to stop the fighting”.

Araqchi said, “Dear Mr. Secretary General; Let's call a spade a spade. This is not ‘the fighting’; this is an 'unprovoked act of aggression' launched by two nuclear armed regimes against Iran.”

“We WERE in ‘serious diplomatic negotiations’ while the U.S./Israel attacked Iran, for a second time during the past 9 months,” Araqchi stated.

“You are concerned about ‘grave risk to the global economy’; what about the innocent civilians, including 175 little angels slaughtered in the City of Minab, and many more killed and maimed across Iran during the past 7 days of American/Israeli criminal acts?!” Araqchi reminded Guterres.

“The UN shall be forthright and shoulder its legal and moral responsibilities regarding this illegal war on Iran,” the top Iranian diplomat added.

The United States and Zionist regime have launched a deadly military campaign against Iran following the assassination of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei as well as senior military commanders and civilians on February 28.

The campaign has involved extensive strikes that have targeted military and civilian areas, resulting in significant casualties and damage.

The Iranian Armed Forces have carried out harsh retaliatory strikes, hitting the US and Israeli targets in the occupied territories and the regional countries with a barrage of missiles and drones.
